Before leaving Atlanta last week, Joyce and I went to the Yellow Daisy Festival at Stone Mountain Park near Atlanta. This arts and crafts festival is held the weekend after Labor Day, running Thursday through Sunday. It features over 500 artists and crafters from all over the country. I love going to this festival!
It is named "Yellow Daisy Festival" after the daisy that grows on the shallow soil on the granite outcrops of Stone Mountain. Stone Mountain is a huge piece of granite with the mountain measuring 825 feet in height. There is a carving that is over 3 acres on the face of the mountain, with Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson being featured on the stone carving.
These particular daisies grow only in a 60 mile radius of this area and they were discovered in 1846. Another name for them is "Confederate Daisy".
After doing our shopping, Joyce and I went over the covered bridge and enjoyed a picnic lunch. There were a lot of ducks and geese awaiting feeding along the lake.
After being with the crowds in the festival, it was nice to have some peace and quiet in a lovely setting. Stone Mountain Park is one of my favorite places in the Atlanta area.
Joyce and I each purchased some amber jewelry and rubber stamps. I told her after buying the stamps, "You would never know we are about to go to a stamp show!" One of the stamps was of a covered bridge....it will remind me of this weekend with our lunch at the bridge and our trip to Campbell Covered Bridge in South Carolina.
One of the regulars on my blog, Jan Castle, sent me some photos of covered bridges in her area of Oregon....just beautiful! There is so much to see in this wonderful country!

Holly, Thank you for taking me along on your vacation. I love the photos, and your stories. Have a wonderful week.
How pretty! Those Confederate daisies are beautiful! And that bridge ~ wow! Thanks for sharing. Sounds like you had a fantastic time.
Now all you have to do Holly, is come to Oregon to see those lovely bridges...your room awaits!

P.S. Also: Schreiner's Iris Gardens, Swan Island Dahlias, Heritage Rose Gardens, Tulips Fields, Peony Gardens, Wind Dancer Gardens, Rhodendrons, the Oregon Coast, and the list goes on...when in season of course! It's a great state!
Holly - Stone Mountain Park I did not get to and had planned it so that I would be there for that particular festival....but a hurricane got in the way and blew us all the way to Georgia...as it were....I was SO disappointed that I didn't get to this event. When we came back to Atlanta to get our plane home everywhere was black...scary....Joyce in Northern Ireland.
