Artwork at National Harbor

National Harbor (located at Oxon Hill, Maryland) is on the shores of the Potomac, near the I-95/495  bridge south of Washington DC. It is one of those convention centers that includes the open air shopping. We are staying at the Gaylord Hotel, one of those fancy smancy places.....I am a "downtown in the nitty gritty" type girl, but since I am tagging along on my husband's business trip, I just get off wherever the bus stops! You do have to ride a bus to get anywhere from here....then a train or two.
Friday was a cold, raw day here with snow showers in the morning, so I stayed in the room most of the day and worked on assignments on my laptop. I also almost finished James Patterson's latest book (Run for your Life). The plot reminds me of the guy this week in Alabama that went crazy killing people.  So sad! I also finished John Grisham's latest book, but his recent books just don't keep my attention like his earlier ones.
A Metro employee that was helping us at one of the stations commented that National Harbor was like a city built in a year. Here is a shot of some of the shops.
There is some interesting artwork here. There are several sculptures and here is one on the "beach". You can see the I-95 bridge in the background. This sculpture is huge and is in five parts. There is a full photo down the post.
Another interesting thing I found were a couple of murals. These are beautiful in real life and I love the three dimensional shells that were used.

I was hoping for some rustic Maine type harbor sketching opportunities....none of that here. Just yachts with weather too cold to sit out in....maybe I will do some sketching in the atrium here at the Gaylord....these people do know how to do atriums! Wish our room was overlooking it, but I take what I can get! Heading home tomorrow
