You've got mail!

When I was at the cabin last week, I hung this antique mailbox my mother had found at a flea market. I love the distressed paint. I have never seen one like it. The lever on the top right opens the top, like a public mailbox that you would find on the street to put mail in. As you pull the lever down, the front part opens up and you drop your mail in the slot. The mail then goes down to the bottom part, where there is a place for a padlock so that your mail is safe. I stuck some letters I have from WWII in the bottom slot to show where it comes out at. I have a whole box of letters from a doctor from the Asheville area who served in the war and letters from his wife to him. I have not read all the letters and chronicled them like I want to do, but she was pregnant during some of the time and they had a son. When I find something like that box of letters, I always want to know where the family is....did the son survive...why were the letters at a flea market? The same is true when I find old photos of people at the flea market. I have "adopted" many unknown people...purchasing their photos to use in my artwork. My friend Lynn actually gives them names, which just infuriates her mother! I will be MIA for the next week. Hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful spring time!

Mrs. Craft, I work with your son down in Tuscaloosa. I really appreciate having him here. I have found a sort of kindred spirit with him.

Your cards are absolutely wonderful and beautiful. I sent a link with your blog to my wife, Alina. She loves this kind of thing and I think it would be very inspiring to her. You can check out her blog here:

Alina posts things in the same vein every now and again--I think ya'll have similar tastes.

Thanks, Patrick. I did visit Alina's blog and enjoyed looking at it. I enjoy photography as much as cardmaking and hope to get some albums set up soon. I have some on Facebook if you ever go there. Went to Europe last summer and took a lot of photos. Plus I do cemeteries and weddings (no connection to each other :-) I have a new Mac laptop and might do some albums there. Thanks for writing!
