Lambert's Cafe

While we are on the subject of food, let's talk about a restaurant we went to while in L.A. (Lower Alabama). This one was in Foley, AL. There are also two other locations in Missouri (Sikeston and Ozark). I had heard about this place for years, as I had a friend from Sikeston, Mo. I did not realize there was one in Alabama until we passed it on the way to Gulf Shores.

Notice the website is throwedrolls.com. It is the home of the throwed roll! Literally, they come around with hot rolls and toss them to you....across the room if you get their attention! Below, you can see the roll in air as the customer is about to catch it!

These things are HUGE! Then they come around with apple butter and sorghum molasses (so thick you can hardly get it out of the jar!). Jim has ONE roll below that he broke in half and has apple butter on one half and the molasses on the other.
In addition to the throwed rolls, they come around with fried okra, tomatoes and macaroni, boiled cabbage, black eyed peas, fried potatoes and you can get all you want. You can also eat all you want of your entree. Jim ordered fried chicken with white beans and mashed potatoes and I got the charbroiled chicken with white beans and sweet potato. Jim asked for another piece of chicken as it was so good.
We decided that we would have been full with just what we had on our plate, without the rolls and all the "freebies".....definitely a fun atmosphere and the food was delicious if you like country cooking....and a lot of it!

Yes, I caught mine. He was close by, though. Wonder how many get dropped? It would be a shame to waste one! It was a very interesting place!

We have been to the one in Sikeston several times. My husband used to have a 4 seater airplane and we would fly from here in Jackson, Tn to the airport in Sikeston. Once at the airport we would call the Restaurant and they would send someone to pick us up and bring us back to the restaurant. After we were finished with our meal they would drive us back to the airport so we could fly back home. This is one of those places you only go when you haven't eaten all day because beside the wonderful down home food you order on your plate they bring all the other fixings as they call them to add to your plate. And the thrown rolls are to die for.

Yes, and those "fixings" were delicious! Even the fried okra wasn't very greasy! I went to college in Henderson, TN and had my first date in Jackson...lots of good memories in that area! In fact, I am usually headed that way this weekend via my daughter's house in Memphis, but not this year. Thanks for sharing your "Landrum story"...I am not surprised they picked you up!
