Christmas Cards 2009

As I often do, I do a couple of different designs for my cards. I did 25 of each of these. They are both a "quilted" look, but the larger one has the sewing added. The smaller strip quilt piece is inserted into a purchased photo card, which saves a little time. I ran them through the Wizard with a Sizzix embossing folder. I learned this technique from my friend Jan Castle. The poinsettia and holly leaves I used on the front were confetti that adds a little glitz to the front.

The larger card I made on some heavy weight Pistachio paper I bought from Marcos. They match a newsletter that I forgot to photograph...I will have to do that. Since I went to Alaska and Minnesota this year, I thought a moose/northwoods theme would be good. Plus, the newsletter paper has quilts on it along with cabins, pinecones, moose, etc.

I ran the quilt through the Wizard with gutter guard and cut the pinecone with a Spellbinders die from suede paper. The stamp at the bottom says, "Not a creature was stirring, not even a moose".

Inside, I cut out the antlers on the moose so I could slip our photo under it.
I went a little overboard with the envelopes, especially the half sheet one for the larger card. Both are spritzed with pearl glimmer mist so there is a snowy look to them. Hopefully the post office will deliver them with all this obstruction! LOL
I will also give my husband credit. I was running short on time and had a stack of quilts to do the cross stitching on them....he actually finished them up while he was watching tv. He only lost one needle! :-) It was one of the best presents he could give me.
It's the little details that count like he glitter on this fella (and the one inside) for his eyes. Can't believe I didn't take a photo of the card with the newsletter, but things have been a little hectic! I only included the newsletter in the larger card. I send it to people who might be interested in what I have been doing all year and to relatives who might want to know what I am saying about them. :-) LOL!
My husband told me this morning that he never saw the finished cards....of course, did I save one for me and my file? Nooooo!

I've been looking for the Sizzix embossing folder. Can you tell me what one you used? It is perfect for the quilt pattern.

Mary, I bought it at Joann's. It comes with some smaller ones too. I will check on the name of it when I go there today.

Mary, that Sizzix embossing folder set is called Ornate flowers and frame #656152. It does make a great quilting pattern. I finally found my little handheld paper shredder that cuts the strips 1/8th of an inch. Bought some valentine paper today to maybe do some quilted hearts for February. It will be here before we know it!
