If Life gives you scraps....

I posted a few posts back some quilt cards I had made using gutter guard on some and embossing folders on some. Saturday I decided to make some of the checkerboard pattern ones using Christmas paper from K & Company. I love these papers!

I used the Spellbinders grid die that cuts 20 squares out at once. First I cut the paper to 4.5 by 6.6 and ran it through the Xyron and then cut in the Wizard. I did not emboss, as the gutter guard will do that, plus I don't want the alphabet on my squares. I also figured out that if you use a decorative background, you can do every other square and thus make two quilts out of each diecut. I also saved the little border to use around the edge, so I made sure the piece of paper was centered when I did the diecut. I found that patterned paper is a little more delicate than solid color paper and I put an additional piece of cardstock on the back when I ran it through the Wizard with the gutter guard. I pierced four holes at each intersection and stitched little "x's". I watched the SEC football championship and pulled for my Gators while I did the stitching and had all the ones pictured above by half time! The Gators won, by the way, and hopefully will be playing for the National Championship! Whoo Hooo!

I love making these! The finished card is 5 by 7 so they would be suitable for framing if someone was so inclined. The stamp on the first one is from Just Rite....love their sets as you can create stamps to say whatever you want and they work great with Spellbinders Nestabilities.

Love your quilt cards and also the idea of only sewing an "X" at the corners. Have to get some of that gutter guard as it makes a great texture.
