California Sketches

When I travel, I like to take some art project to work on. If we are going in a car, I can take stamps, markers, tools, etc. If we are flying, I like to take a watercolor palette, pencils, wc paper and a sketch pad. These items don't take up much room and they can entertain me for hours.

We were sightseeing on the first part of our trip and I have plenty of photos to share. The last part of the trip, my husband had a convention at the same location of the CHA winter show in Anaheim, California. We were staying at the Marriott next to the convention center and I had a couple of days where he was working and I was in the room. I could have ventured out into LA traffic, but I don't particularly like Atlanta traffic, so why would I want to get out in that mess? I have already been to Hollywood, etc., and I am not a Disney person, so I relaxed in the room or in the chair by the pool right outside our room.

There were birds of paradise blooming everywhere and they were asking to be painted and I liked the design of the chairs that were in an eating area beside the pool. The light and shadows were interesting so I enjoyed doing that. I think you pay attention to details more if you sit down and sketch. Don't tell me you can't draw.....you don't know until you try and practice! When I was a child I would get the funny papers and draw those. If I get stuck in an airport, it is fun to pull out a pencil and my sketch book and draw away. It is a relaxing thing that I wished I had or took more time to do. At least I had two days of my California trip to relax and sketch. Photos will be coming soon! It was fun, but I am glad to be home.
