One of the things I love about going to St. Simons Island is seeing the sunrise. I know that sunsets are known for their color, but sunrises can be pretty spectacular also! This island is in the southern portion of Georgia, one of several barrier islands off Georgia. We spend the last weekend of January there for a conference my husband attends. Nearby is Sea Island, Jekyll Island, Cumberland Island and Sapelo Island.
We stay at the King & Prince which is near the "village" and the St. Simons Lighthouse.
The first morning we were there, we had a bank of clouds along the horizon, but I captured a flock of birds, which added some interest to the photo.
Below, the glow of the sunrise lights up the buildings at the resort. Any time you are taking photographs, use your eyes to look around and your feet to walk around!
The first peek of the sun coming up is so exciting, but you have to act quickly, as it comes up very fast! I also got some great shots with the pool in the photos that I will share.

It has been many years since I visited these islands. Too many to count...I had forgotten the beauty that is there! Thanks for sharing....Those pictures are bringing back so many wonderful memories!
My BIL used to live at St.Simons when he was with the border patrol. We visited him while the US goverment was renting him a house that was just a block from the beach. I fell in love with this areadue to the Cape Cod beach houses and the wonderful sunrises. Thanks for bringing back some great memories.
Wonderful photos Holly!!! I'm never up at sunrise, so these photos are a real treat to see!!!
