Lake Peyto at Bow Summit

The same day we visited Lake Louise, we drove up the Icefields Parkway to Bow Summit. Here, there was a walk to the overlook of Lake Peyto. The color of this water was just unreal! Joyce said most of the photos she had seen were taken in the morning, but we could not imagine the lake being any prettier than it was on this afternoon.

We noticed that the buses parked much closer than the cars. Certain advantages are given to tour buses, but we enjoyed the walk and saw lots of wildflowers, so we did not fuss too much! The "bus people" could be a real pain, however. Since they were usually in a big hurry, they were quite pushy. I know that tours are the only way some people can travel, but it sure is nice to be able to stop where you want and stay as long as you want.

The glacier that feeds Lake Peyto is just to the left of the photo above. All along the Icefields Parkway, there were glaciers visible with beautiful scenery such as below.
It is hard to capture the grandeur of these scenes with a camera!

Say, that's some camera!!! Glad to see you got a piece of blue sky. These pics remind me of a beautiful calendar picture.
Hugs,
Jan

Actually, Jan, there are two cameras! My hubby let me get another camera before the trip so now I have a 7D and a 5DMarkII. The 5D has a full sized sensor so it takes a wider angle shot to go with the new wide angle lens I got. But, now that my computers are full, I have no room for more photos! It was a beautiful day.

I have been following your trip pictures with great interest --so glad you had a chance to visit my part of the world (I live just outside of Edmonton). My favorite memories are of traveling the Icefields Parkway between Jasper and Banff. When I was reading your posts for Jasper I remember thinking that I hoped you had the chance to see Peyto Lake -- its colour is unforgettable.

Sheryl, glad to have you visiting my blog with photos of your beautiful area of the world. It was definitely stunning. The first day we drove the entire Parkway, it was NASTY weather, so we went back and caught the things we missed. We had a great time at the Fort Edmonton Park and the West Edmonton Mall was wonderful! We stayed over in the Sherwood Park area. Thanks for writing!
